Colorful flags twirl in the air, met with the sound of laughter as a group of friends are having fun. The long practices lead to fun competitions. Some people like to dance or play a sport, but some students have a different hobby. They want to perform and show everyone what they have learned. Their costumes are wild, brilliant, and different than any other. They put in a lot of work, but still have a fun time. The Golden Guard puts their hearts into what they do.

“We put in a lot of work to make sure we’re the best we can be, and we practice Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, for three hours,” sophomore guard member Alenia Frazier said.

The girls on the guard will always keep working to be better.

“We were really good this season but there’s always room for improvement. We have won first for our indoor competitions,” Frazier said.

This year was an even better year for our guard.

“We are a lot better than last year, because we have a different coach who is here more,” sophomore Guard Member Sarah Rice said.

Being able to perform in front of an audience is a thrill that many students on the team seek.

“The best part of guard is performing and getting out there on the field and showing everyone all the hard work we have put into the show,” Frazier said.

There are many reasons why people enjoy doing guard.

“There isn’t a ‘worst’ part of being on the team, but it is challenging, and the hardest part for me is learning all the choreography quickly,” Frazier said.

Colorguard is a busy activity, but one that is worth it.

“It is an activity to keep me busy, and I have met so many people that I can rely on and who will always be there for me,” Frazier said.

Students in guard get to spend time with their friends, while doing what they love.

“I like being with my friends all day on competition days, and I love to perform” Rice said.

The Golden Guard wears unique costumes, and their makeup always goes along with it.

“Our makeup can be challenging, and our costumes always go along with the theme of our show,” Frazier said.

Being in the Golden Guard might be hard, but it is worth it. The people in guard have met many new friends, and became closer with old friends. They have fun together behind the scenes, but put in their best work with every performance.
